Sarah's infertility weighs heavily on her life. Her situation looks even more hopeless when she is trapped for years in the harem of an Egyptian Pharaoh. When freeing her, Pharaoh gives Sarah a little girl named Ta-Sherit, who was born in the harem. The mysterious God who speaks to Sarah and her husband, Abraham, has promised them many descendants. But Sarah is old and getting older, and is still childless.
In this novel, Sarah tells her story through the lens of her relationship with Ta-Sherit, whom she loves and raises like a daughter—while others nickname the Egyptian girl "Hagar" and view her as a servant. In this creative reimagining of an ancient family drama, the biblical text becomes a new story when it comes from Sarah in her own voice.
About the Author

As a biblical scholar, Jean K. Dudek was disappointed that few Bible stories are told from a woman’s perspective and that there are no mother-daughter stories. She wrote this book to start filling those gaps by writing historical fiction based on the ancient texts.
Jean is a graduate of Smith College, New York University School of Law, and Wesley Theological Seminary. After her career as an intellectual property lawyer in New York City and Washington, DC, Jean became a Teaching Assistant in Wesley’s introductory Bible classes.
