“What would happen if one woman told the truth about her life? The world would split open.”
— Muriel Rukeyser
The Story Circle Journal is a quarterly, members-only digital newsletter published in March, June, September, and December. Written by and for women with stories to tell, it is designed to encourage readers to become writers, guide women to set down their true stories, support women’s creativity, and make possible the sharing of women’s lives. Each issue includes ideas for writing chapters of your life’s story, reviews of helpful books, readers’ writings, news about SCN activities, and a calendar of coming events.
Within the Journal, we publish “True Words,” our members’ lifewriting contributions of poetry and prose—pieces that tell a brief story and express feelings in each woman’s own true voice. This section is organized around a particular theme in each issue. Here are the themes for 2025:
March 2025: “Working on Balance” (deadline January 15)
June 2025: “My Earliest Memory” (deadline April 15)
September 2025: Who Am I? (deadline July 15)
December 2025: A Lesson I Learned (deadline October 15)
We also invite your non-theme writing—any topic is acceptable. Members, to submit your writing to the Journal, see our Writers’ Guidelines.
Other topics included in our newsletters:
- news about the Network’s most recent national conference
- information about current and upcoming online writing classes/webinars
- updates regarding SCN’s various writing competitions
- inspiring and informative columns covering effective writing techniques
The Story Circle Journal connects members with a growing network of women committed to exploring and enriching their lives through writing and sharing.
