Travels with Maggie is the story of a journalist who retired at 65, sold her home, and spent the next nine years traveling around the country with her dog, Maggie, in a small RV. The book is a travelogue that covers six months of her journey, which began from a daughter’s home in Arkansas, covered 7,000 miles through 23 states and Canada to Acadia National Park in Maine, before ending in Texas in time for Thanksgiving with another daughter. The author’s writing brings a much-needed feminine voice to those of travel writers such as John Steinbeck, William Least Heat Moon, and Charles Kuralt. While a realist who sees the changes that have taken place across the country, the author chose to look for the silver linings. She asks many questions as she travels. Sometimes there were no answers, but always there is enlightenment.
