Class synopsisIs reading your passion? Do you want to turn that passion into an income-generating one? If so, this course is for you. From the skills required to read and write as a reviewer to the venues available for selling or profiting your book reviews, this course covers it all.
Over four weeks, we'll cover the many components of book reviewing: how to read as a reviewer and take the essential notes as you do so; what are the essential elements of a book review; the specifics of writing a compelling book review; and the venues of opportunity as a professional book reviewer. This course is a start-to-publication course on book reviewing.

Class communication methodStudents will receive an outline of the course on which they can expand the material in the lectures themselves. These outlines can be delivered via email.
The Art, Craft, and Business of Book Reviewing consists of 4 weekly units:
Week 1: Introduction to Book Reviewing and what it takes to be a professional, profitable book reviewer
Week 2: Reading and taking notes as a book reviewer
Week 3: Writing the professional book reviewer
Week 4: Income generating opportunities for the professional book reviewer
Class time commitmentOne hour per week via Zoom meeting and one hour per week for homework. Meetings will be scheduled on Tuesday evenings, 7-8 EST, 8/17, 8/24, 8/31, and 9/7.

Donna Russo Morin is an international bestselling author of ten historical, women's, and fantasy fiction novels. With degrees in English Literature and Communications, her writing career began as a book reviewer for her state's newspaper; to date, Donna has over a hundred book review credits to her name. She has taught for Writer's Digest University for over four years and at her state's most prestigious adult learning center.
Donna Russo Morin is the internationally bestselling author of ten multi-award-winning historical novels including GILDED DREAMS: The Journey to Suffrage, and GILDED SUMMERS, a Novel of Newport’s Gilded Age, both inspired by the city on the sea in her home state of Rhode Island.

Donna is currently adapting the Da Vinci’s Disciples Trilogy for the screen. Her pilot script, Murder in the Duomo, was a Semifinalist in Filmmatic’s TV Pilot Awards and won an Honorable Mention in the Script category of Writer’s Digest 89th Annual Writing Competition in 2020.
Her other titles include The King’s Agent, recipient of a starred review in Publishers Weekly, The Courtier of Versailles (originally released as The Courtier’s Secret), and To Serve a King. She has also authored, BIRTH: ONCE UPON A TIME BOOK ONE, a medieval fantasy and the first in a trilogy.
Donna began writing as a book reviewer in 1987 and has more than a hundred book review credits to her name. As a twenty-five-year professional editor/story consultant, her work spans more than forty manuscripts. She holds two degrees from the University of Rhode Island and a Certificate of Completion from the National Writer’s School. Donna teaches writing courses at her state’s most prestigious adult learning center, online for Writer’s Digest University, and has presented at national, international, and academic conferences for more than twenty years. Her appearances include multiple HNS conferences, Writer’s Digest Annual Conference, RT Booklovers Convention, the Ireland Writers Tour, and many more.
