Class description
Authors who hope to be published need to understand the current concerns shaping the decisions publishers and agents make when it comes to the manuscripts they choose to acquire. This lecture will explore the issue of sensitivity readers, which has become a major point of emphasis within the industry. It will draw on my own publishing experience with my novel, Traces, winner of Story Circle Network’s 2024 Sarton Award for historical fiction.

Patricia Hudson has been a freelance writer for more than 30 years, and was a contributing editor at Americana magazine for a decade. Her novel, Traces, won Story Circle Network’s 2024 Sarton Award for historical fiction. Her other book credits include Listen Here: Women Writing in Appalachia, and The Carolinas and the Appalachian States, a volume in the Smithsonian Guide to Historic America series. She lives in Knoxville, Tennessee.
