I was seated at the table, watching the morning news, and was just about to get ready to leave for my Tues. AM prayer group. Suddenly, the pictures were there...."a commuter plane has hit the World Trade Center..." and then, unbelieveably, the live broadcast of a second plane slamming into the second tower. It was surreal. I sat glued to the TV for the next 1/2 hr., while the determination was made that these were terroristic acts and that they were not over. I called to tell my friends I didn't feel comfortable leaving my house for prayer meeting....I live near Offutt AFB. After another 20 min. or so, I decided to go after all, and headed into town, aware that the nearby base could be a target if indeed this was terrorism. It wasn't until afternoon, after I arrived home, that I learned that the President had indeed come to Offutt as he tried to get safely back to Washington. My need that day was to affirm life in the face of all that death. I had a thought driving into town that I must plant something as a memorial to the thousands of lives lost in the tragedy. I stopped on my way home and picked up a white Chrysanthemum which I have planted in my garden and marked with a "garden angel". It is my small tribute to the many souls who so innocently left this world that day. May God bless them and us.
