Give Sorrow Words:
The Day America Changed
September 11, 2001

Australia mourns

My name is Georgy and I live in Brisbane, Australia. 6am local time, Sept 12 I was woken by my best friend, who told me of the horror unfolding.

I used to live in the States when I was younger, and I love the US as my second home. I try to write what I feel but it's so hard. Words just don't cut it.

Instead, I wish I could let every American know that the world really does grieve along with you. They say it on CNN, but you know, it really is true. I went to pick up pizza last night (cooking was all too much) and it was all that was being talked about at the pizza shop. My household is glued to the TV - it's been on almost 24 hours a day since yesterday morning. I feel like by walking away from my TV i'm somehow turning my back on the horror, even if it is just to go to sleep.

I wish to God I was closer, so I could do something more than sit here weeping in impotent sorrow. I love America and Americans, and can only salute their nobility of spirit in this time of immeasurable grief.

Please know you are not alone.
