I was just leaving for work when I saw the terror at the twin towers on TV. I left for work and once I got there I heard that the Pentagon was on fire and there were roomers about about a fire at the White House and that there was a bomb at the State Dept. I immediately called and woke my husband saying "You need to know what is happening. All hell is breaking loose". I was SCARED!!! My 18 yr old daughter began attending a DC University a month ago. Was she going to perish??? The ironic fact was that last winter she was concerned about a terrorist attack in Washington and wasn't sure if that was the place to go to college, though she loves the power Washington stands for and decided she would go.
My husband tried phoning her about 10:30, but all long distance was d/c. My other daughter in another state and husband were able to reach her by IM on the internet :) and find out she was all right. The students in her dorm spent the day together watching the progression of the day. She remarked that it was strange, that outdoors, you could hear the airforce planes fllying back and forth. Yes she was SCARED, but also calm. Being with her new made friends and sharing their thoughts and feelings helped.
The school also had a bomb scare on Thursday, but she called and let us know she was OK. Friday night she attend a candlelight vigil in front of a Nat Monument and she said she would never forget that experience.
In these few days I have resigned to the fact that there is a war and that there is that chance that either of my daughters (one 350 miles away and the other 500 miles away)could perish. They are no different than any of the other people that perished in the attacks on Tuesday. My heart and prayers go out to them and I pray to GOD that nothing like that will ever happen again.
May GOD (whichever you believe in) bless us all and may peace prevail (after we take out the terrorists).
