When I turned on the television that morning I saw the tower of the World Trade Center on fire. I wondered what could have caused it. I called my husband to watch. There were big holes in the building with fire and smoke coming out. My husband is fire chief here in Tucumcari. I ask him how anyone could put that out. He said they had ways to do so. As we watched the fire, shortly another plane approached the other tower and went directly into it with a big flash of fire and debris falling. "Oh my God," I said. I can't believe this. It has to be a terrorist now. As we continued to watch in disbelief, it was reported that the Pentagon had been hit by another airplane and it was on fire. What next!! Could it be our White House and President? No one knows the minds of these warped men and who are behind them. The God they worship must be warped too. You try to feel what these people on the airplanes must have thought in their last minutes of life-powerless and trying to pray to God that their loved ones know that they love them. You try to feel what the ones in the towers felt when trying to escape-maybe making it or maybe not. There is know way to really imagine what they went through. I only pray that time and love from family and friends will sustain them in the days ahead. America is too good to have doubt in our country. America will prevail.Terrorist have to be brought to justice. God Bless America now and always!
Starting from the day of Sept. 11th, America became patriotic with flags, flag pins on their lapel, giving money to the Red Cross and victims. We & others have watched every moment of the attack on the Twin Towers, Pentagon and the crash of the plane. We & others watched from a distance of the clean up of the Twin Towers. Now, most of the flags and lapel pins have been put aside, not that we have forgotten but are too lazy to show our pride. We have never heard where all the money has gone to and if it helped anyone directly or not. We care and remember but we can't do anything from a distance to help except to pray for those who lost loved ones. I value life more now than ever before because it can be lost in a heartbeat.
My life didn't change too much except that I look at people more cautiously to see if they are going to do something out of the ordinary. I haven't flown in a plane but I'm not afraid of flying because when it's your time to go then whatever will be will be.
The ones responsible for the disasters will probably never all be punished for what they did. Terrorism will still go on until some people get a brain. I can't understand how a person can blow themselves up for their leader and how the families can think they are heros. I doubt the families get any money for their loved one blown up. The person is suckered into terrorism. Will someone build a statue of them or honor them, no.
It seems that there are more CEO's trying to get the almighty dollar of others to make themselves rich. There is no compassion for others. It's me, me, me. What kind of role model is that for their children? There are more killings and kidnappings this past year than ever before. Some people don't value someone else's life like they should.
I wonder what the world is coming to with so much hate and greed in people. As for me, I will continue to do my best and try to be a role model for my children and grandchildren and pray for peace in the world.
