Conference Workshops

The conference program will feature small (10-12 participants) 90-minute interactive writing workshops, all held on the seventh floor of the Alkek Library at Texas State University, in the area of the Southwestern Writers Collection. The workshops are designed to help participants focus on issues and challenges involved in writing about place, personal history, and the intimate connection between person and place. Unlike many other Story Circle conferences and activities, A Land Full of Stories is open to women and men, and both are invited to submit workshop proposals.

Workshop facilitators do not have to be members of Story Circle. For membership information, go to www.storycircle.org/frmjoinscn.shtml. We will post a list of accepted proposals on February 15, 2007.

If your proposal(s) is (are) accepted, you will receive a $50 discount from the full registration fee for each workshop you offer. To receive the discount, you must register for the full conference by March 15, 2007. All presenters must register for the full conference.

Proposal Guidelines

We've put together a list of possible workshop topics to get you started thinking. But these ideas are just suggestions—be creative!

Please use the online form below to submit your proposal. In the submittal form, we are asking you to give us a concise synopsis of your workshop and define its goals, methods, and benefits so that we can easily see what you are trying to do.

Your synopsis will be used to promote both your presentation and the conference. So take advantage of this opportunity to "sell" your workshop and build excitement about the conference with descriptive words that clearly define your goals for the workshop and the benefits participants can expect. Remember that your workshop should be interactive and writing-oriented, not a lecture-style presentation. Please provide detailed information about the methods you plan to use to involve participants.

A catchy, definitive presentation title is important. Create something short and sweet that will appeal to conference attendees and whet their appetite. We reserve the right to polish and/or make minor changes to your title and synopsis.

Please note: You may co-facilitate a workshop with another person(s); multiple facilitators must be named and all bios must be included with your application. The $50 fee reduction will be divided between the co-facilitators.

Submitting a Proposal

Please fill out the form below. Don't forget to make a copy for yourself (you can print the screen that you will see after you submit your form—it will contain all the information you type on this page). The deadline for all proposals is January 22, 2007. The Program Committee will notify you regarding acceptance of your proposal by February 15, 2007. You will receive the appropriate facilitator's discount when you register for the conference; you must, however, register by March 15 in order to confirm your participation and receive the discount.

We look forward to seeing you at the conference!
