I'm a relocated New Mexican "Mestizo" (Native American/Spanish) and have been writing since I was 15 years old. I love keeping a journal and writing scenes out of my life like pages of photographs—each a complete "picture". I began writing poetry in "reform school" in the mid-60s, and when I aged out of the system, I had my first book of poetry (A Quintessence of Dust) published when I was 17 years old.
I have a double MA in conseling and chemical dependency and worked as a counselor for 24 years. After that, I retired and went to work for Oklahoma's Metropolitan Library System as an Extension Specialist/Circulation Clerk for another 10 years. In 2005, I retired from the library and started teaching classes at Rose State College as Adjunct Faculty. I host 2 Story Circles in Midwest City, and facilitate a workshop based on Susan Wittig Albert's book Writing from Life: Telling Your Soul's Story. I also work for H&R Block which is an experience and a half! Earlier this year, I was brought back to the library as an independent contractor and am currently teaching 2 classes there. In my spare time I listen to music, read, and do my best to write "something" every day. |
