We've noticed that Austin Chapter members quickly become friends who love doing things together. That's why we're offering a new opportunity to those wishing to invite members to their special events - a book signing, an exhibit, a sale of jewelry, a party, you name it! Your description of your event needs to be as brief as possible - your name/email/phone#, event name, date/time, and location, plus a few sentences of description.
If you're an SCN member and you have an upcoming event in the Austin, TX area (or nearby), please let us know (by sending email to storycircle@storycircle.org). If you're not yet a member, why not join us? (see our online membership form).

| Jan - Dec | Exploring Creativity Workshop for Prisoners | Nathalie Sorrell & Carol Waid, "Truth Be Told" (TBT) | Geo Work Program at women's prison, Lockhart TX | |
|
Nathalie Sorrell, directing the Exploring Creativity program, says: "TBT's purpose in bringing Creative arts into the prison is to share with inmates the tools we use for moving THROUGH emotional pain and stresses of life. We wish to offer them other tools than striking out at others, or going into depression and fear."
You do not have to be a professional artist. or even someone who considers herself an Artist. You do need to be someone who knows the power of the creativity you practice to help move through pain, heal and restore lost sense of self, and deal with grief. Or you may be someone who loves to play, and sees how your playfulness can be shared and taught to women who often never had a childhood. For those who would like to get involved, Truth Be Told invites you to consider leading a 2.5 hour creativity workshop in 2005. If you are interested, please send an email to Nathalie Sorrell, at nsorrell@truth-be-told.com describing the class you would like to offer and your previous experience. For more information you can call her at 250-5746. The classes can have 1/2 hour of information/demonstration but the rest of the time should be participatory. It is good to share a part of your own story to connect with the inmates, who are more likely to trust you if they hear/see your authenticity and truth-telling demonstrated. Simply WHY you have chosen to do this with them is a good natural lead in. Please state which dates you are interested in. TBT may want to interview you at a later date. Interplay, Yoga, dance, prayer and meditation instructors are welcomed and needed as are musicians, mask makers, singer/songwriters, creative spiritual directors, visual artists, performance coaches and writers. Another program, using creativity to deal with trauma, is also being implemented. This will only be offered to a selected group of graduates and mentors of our programs, and we will only consider trained leaders who have the experience doing this kind of work. If you are interested in that, please contact us for an interview and the dates available. Truth Be Told shares many of the creative tools we all use ourselves to get through confusion and pain in life. In TBT's core curriculum Talk to Me classes, women prepare for 8 weeks to tell, read and dance/talk their stories to respectful listeners, loving and compassionate witnesses, one of whom could be you if you are interested. | ||||
