The Story Circle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping women explore and record their life stories, is holding its fourth national women's memoir conference February 1-3, 2008, at the Wyndham Hotel in Austin TX.

Nancy Aronie, the Friday night keynote speaker, has been a commentator for National Public Radio's All Things Considered. She was a Visiting Writer at Trinity College in Hartford, CT, wrote a monthly column in McCall's magazine and was the recipient of the Eye of The Beholder Artist in Residence award at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. She gives writing workshops and lectures at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, Omega Institute, Rowe Conference Center, Wain-Wright House and The Open Center in New York City. She teaches at Harvard University. |
Story Circle past president Judith Helburn, speaking of the importance of women's stories, says, "Personal narrative is an important literary form. Psychologists note, as well, the importance of journaling and personal narrative as a tool for improving mental and physical health. Stories from the Heart encourages women to develop and explore their personal stories, and the stories of their families and communities."
The three-day conference features twenty-two program sessions offered by presenters from around the country. They will speak on a wide variety of topics of interest to women memoirists and life-writers, including personal narrative techniques, self-publishing, journaling, memoir and fiction, and art as a medium for personal story. Participants may perform their stories at an open-mike evening.
