Approved Bylaws

  1. Mission Statement

    2. The AC/SC seeks to further the purpose of The Story Circle Network by helping women in the Austin area share the stories of their lives through women-focussed circles. These circles may include, but are not limited to, writing, reading, and / or telling stories to gain deeper understandings of their own lives.

  2. Bylaws

    1. Membership and Meetings

      1. Membership is open to any woman who belongs to The Story Circle Network.

      2. In addition to its regular program activities, the AC/SC will hold an annual business meeting and an annual social event designed to recruit new members.

      3. Membership dues will be determined by the members at an annual organizational meeting.

      4. Women must be members in good standing (have paid dues for the current year) to vote at the organizational meeting.

    2. Officers and Responsibilities

      3. Initially, four officers will be elected for the Chapter. By a simple majority the Chapter may elect to add additional officers and/or committee chairs as needed. The officers include, but are not limited to:

      1. President: Responsible for facilitating each meeting, or for appointing someone in her place. The President is responsible for seeing that ongoing programs are planned.

      2. Vice President: Responsible for assisting the president and carrying on presidential duties in the president's absence.

      3. Publicity: Responsible for notifying members of meetings and program schedule. When possible, members will be notified through e-mail and through the Story Circle Network web site. Mailings and phone calls will be used when appropriate.

      4. Treasurer: Responsible for collecting dues and making disbursements as required.

    3. Programs

      1. Programs will be consistent with the Mission Statement.

      2. Programs will be determined by the membership. Any member may suggest a type of program for the Chapter's consideration.

      3. Depending upon interest, smaller groups may be established for specific types of programs; e.g. the Austin Reading Circle.

These bylaws, based on the Guidelines for Becoming an Official Chapter of the Story Circle Network, were approved by the Story Circle Network Board of Directors on 05/10/99.

They were amended (addition of VP) at the 02/23/03 business meeting.
