Third Annual Life-Writing Contest
|
|
Do you know who you are? Have you discovered your undiscovered self? If so, you have just two weeks to write your story and enter it in our third annual Life-Writing Competition (open only to Story Circle members). Be Our Guest!

The Austin Chapter invites chapter members and their guests to attend our upcoming "Be Our Guest" program. It will be held at the LCRA Colorado Room, 3700 Lake Austin Blvd. (see a map here: www.storycircle.org/graphics/LCRA_map.html).
Sunday, August 25, 2-4pm:
PJ Pierce talks about her new book, Let Me Tell You What I've Learned: Texas Wise Women Speak, a collection of wisdom gathered in interviews with 25 well-known Texas women. Carolyn Blankenship's Write On! circle will also share selections from their work. Story Circle member Trudie Eklund will speak briefly about her new book, Where Are My Hugs? and will have copies for sale.

Barnes & Noble Memoir Collection
|
|
You are invited to contribute to a new memoir collection! The book, called The Noble Generation is being compiled by the folks at Barnes & Noble, who welcome submissions from people over 55. If you have a story to tell and you'd like to share it with the world, you'll find guidelines for submission here: www.storycircle.org/noble.html. You can also attend a memoir workshop led by our OWL-Circle workshop facilitators. The Barnes & Noble Community Relations Coordinators will be at this workshop to answer your questions about submitting your stories.

Reading Circles

|
The Austin Chapter Reading Circle meets monthly to read and discuss women's memoirs, autobiographies, and journals. July's book is Comfort Me With Apples, by Ruth Reichl. Join us for a lively discussion on July 10, or just enjoy the book on your own. Your purchase through SCN's Amazon.com link helps to support SCN's many activities. Writing Circles

Two new Writing Circles are forming in Northwest Austin:
- We've had several requests for a new evening writing circle. Susan Jaschke has volunteered to lead it, and we're now looking for a home. Email her at sjazz@austin.rr.com and let her know that you're interested. You might also tell her which nights would be best for you.
- Judy Flournoy will facilitate a second writing circle at Spicewood Springs library beginning in September. We will announce the time and date soon. If you are interested in joining this new circle, please contact Judy at judflo@att.net.
Interested in meeting with other women to write and share stories? Please join one of our Austin Chapter Writing Circles for support, encouragement, and ideas for life-writing topics. The Circles meet monthly:

The chapter now has 164 members, 12 Writing eCircles, and a Reading eCircle. If you're a Story Circle member and want to join our cyber-circle, click on Internet Chapter. If you're not a member but are interested in joining the Network, check out the Story Circle web site (www.storycircle.org).
