Austin Chapter of the Story Circle Network (AC/SC)
Meeting
02/15/99
The organizing group for the AC/SC met on Monday, February 15, to begin defining the Chapter. In general, the group agreed to forming a minimally structured organization. The consensus is that it is easier to add the structure as it is needed rather than trying to conform to one. With that background, the following was decided:
- Members must belong to the Story Circle Network.
- The Chapter will meet once a month from 7-9 PM on the second Monday of each month.
(NOTE: this may change if it conflicts with SCN Board meetings...)
- If the space is available, the Chapter will meet in the McGuire Room at the AGE Building.
- There will be a planned six-month program and at the end of that time the agenda for the next six months will be established.
- For the first six months, Susan Albert's book, Writing From Life: Telling Your Soul's Story will be the basis for the meetings.
- There was a discussion of dues, but no decision was reached. It was not quite clear how the money would be used since e-mail and the web site eliminates the need for mailings. There was no objection to the amount ($12 was suggested); no one wanted to have the responsibility for the money. This was tabled until next meeting.
- At the next meeting on Thursday, March 18 (6:30 PM in the Garden Room at the AGE Building), Penny Appleby will provide a draft of the proposed by-laws for the Chapter. We will also plan the topics for the first six-months. The completed by-laws and the plans will be submitted to Story Circle Network for approval as an official chapter.
- Discussion will also continue on the types of programs and activities the Chapter might consider. For example, it was suggested that the current Reading Circle might eventually belong to the Chapter.
- Penny will research the dues issue and provide additional information so that a decision may be reached.
- Participation in the March 18 meeting is open to anyone interested, even if you were not able to attend the February 15 meeting.
